Bunch counts

About a month before harvest many vintners count the number of bunches per vine, which gives you a handy estimate of the weight of grapes you will harvest. The Sectormentor Yield Predictor will generate a yield prediction based on the bunch counts you add, and bunch weight (you can just use an average bunch weight, or measure your own).

Measuring your own bunch weight gives you an approximate historical bunch weight that’s specific to your vineyard, meaning your yield prediction should get better year on year! Learn how to add your own bunch weights here.

How to do the test

1. Head to the sample bay (or block / vine) where you want to find an average bunch count, and either scan the relevant RFID tag with your Sectormentor app, or click on the appropriate location in your app.

2. Count all bunches within the sample bay (or all bunches for the next 10-20 vines depending on your chosen sampling system), and enter this number in your Sectormentor app.

3. Divide your count total to find the average per vine (this can be easily done within Sectormentor).

4. Add any relevant notes or photos alongside your bunch counts to be viewed in the Sectormentor web app – and remember to ‘sync’ when you’re done using your phone!

5. Login to your Sectormentor web app dashboard and head to the Yield Predictor Tool to view your updated yield prediction made from your recorded bunch counts!
